I so love the holidays because it means time spent with family and friends, and my favorite pastime, baking!
Ever since I can remember, baking and the holidays have gone hand in hand. There was never a Thanksgiving or Christmas when there weren’t cookies, pie or some kind sweets on the dessert table. We often spent both of those holidays at my Grandmother’s, surrounded by family with the smells of cinnamon, vanilla and lots of delicious food filling the air.

This recipe has been created with the eggnog lovers in mind, and might just become a Christmas morning tradition. It’s a great way to use up leftover eggnog for the perfect holiday breakfast.
McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract is something I grew up with. There’s something comforting about that brown bottle with the red and white label sitting on the counter. It’s like an old friend and something that generations of women in my family have used, and no doubt will use for generations to come.
What do I need to make this easy French toast recipe?
- Challah bread – cut into 1-inch slices
- Large eggs
- Store-bought eggnog or you can make your own homemade eggnog
- McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract
- Cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice is a good substitute
- Nutmeg
- Kosher salt
- Butter
- Optional – add a teaspoon of dark rum or rum extract to the French toast batter.
- Top it with fresh berries or pomegranate arils, and whipped cream!
Maple Butter
- Butter, room temperature
- Pure maple syrup
- McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract
How do you make French Toast with egg nog?
- In a shallow dish, beat the eggs.
- Whisk in the eggnog, McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Mix until thoroughly combined.
- Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium high heat. Add one tablespoon of the 5 tablespoons of butter to the pan / griddle to start melting.
- Take the bread slices one at a time, and dip into the egg mixture for a few seconds on each side.
- Allow excess batter to drip off before placing into the skillet or on the hot griddle.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes before turning over to cook on the other side for an additional 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Repeat process by adding about one tablespoon of butter to skillet each time before cooking remaining slices.
- Top slices with Maple Butter and pure maple syrup before serving.
Make the Maple Butter
You can make the maple butter ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator when ready to serve. This is delicious not only on this Eggnog French Toast, but on regular toast, crepes, baked French toast, French Breakfast Puffs, and more!
- In medium bowl, cream the butter until smooth.
- Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract and maple syrup. Mix until completely combined.
How do I store Baked Eggnog French Toast?
Leftover slices of French toast can be placed into an airtight container and refrigerated for up to 3 days.

Ingredients
- 16 ounces Challah bread cut into 1-inch thick slices (approximately 12)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup eggnog
- 1 ½ teaspoons McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- pinch of salt
- 5 tablespoons butter
Maple Butter
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
- ½ teaspoon McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract
- pure maple syrup for serving
Instructions

In a shallow bowl or baking dish, beat the eggs.

Whisk in the eggnog, McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract and maple syrup.
